Pro Natura

With more than 100,000 members in Switzerland and more than 2,000 in Ticino, Pro Natura is the leading association for the protection of nature at the national level. Created a century ago with the intent of setting up the National Park in the Engadine, Pro Natura works to preserve the natural environment with animals and plants that inhabit them. In addition, it takes part in some form or the other in the protection of nearly 700 protected areas in Switzerland. Some of these are located in Ticino, such as Bolle di Magadino, the small lake of Muzzano (owned by Pro Natura since 1944) and Bedrina of Dalpe (owned by Pro Natura since 1961). Pro Natura also operates, both nationally and through its cantonal sections, various centers, the largest and best known being Aletsch (VS) and Champ Pittet at Yverdon-les-Bains (VD). These two centers are closely related to protected landscapes of extraordinary value, representing an icon tourist attractiveness of our country. Pro Natura is therefore, together with BirdLife Switzerland, the association with the most experience in the management of facilities in protected areas as well as in centers for environmental education.

Founded in 1960, the Ticino section of Pro Natura has decided to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary by buying and renovating the UomoNatura Center. In this way, the association wants to improve man's relationship with nature and at the same time open up more to the population of the canton of Ticino.
